PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: Community activist and leader of the Belize Territorial Volunteers Wil Maheia is reporting the discovery of an illegal logging operation in the Maya Mountain Forest Reserve.

According to Maheia, he and a group including another member of the Belize Territorial Volunteers went to investigate reports that Guatemalans were engaged in the illegal logging activity.

In his Facebook post, Meheia said that after hours of hiking deep into the Maya Mountain Forest Reserve, they came across the first batch of illegally cut Mahogany and Barbajalote.

Maheia says that he and his group immediately informed the Forest Officer at the Savannah Station in the hopes that quick action will be taken to ensure that those responsible for the illegal logging operation are brought to justice.
