Friday, June 6, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: Three weeks ago Christian Ebanks, a naturalized Belizean businessman of the West Landivar area, was picked up at home and charged with keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license.

Gang Suppression Unit officers searched his residence on Teacher Street on May 14 and found a chrome 9mm handgun with black pistol grip in a plastic bag hidden inside the lower portion of a stove in the kitchen. He was denied bail and remanded.

But the twist to the story is that Ebanks is alleged to be wanted fugitive Floyd Wendel Ebanks Jurado, who, according to a 2011 web posting, is being sought in the Guayas Province of Ecuador for the murder of Ecuadoran Alejandro Martín Teófilo, which happened on Puna Island.

Today Ebanks appeared before Justice Troadio Gonzalez with attorney Senior Counsel Ellis Arnold and successfully applied for bail.

Ebanks made bail of $8,000 on the condition that he surrender all his travel documents, not interfere with any prosecution witnesses and report regularly to the Queen Street Police Station for the duration of his matter which returns to court on July 21.

marleny_castellanosMeanwhile, Guatemalan couple Alfredo Gonzalez Marcos and Marleni Castellanos must wait until June 20 for their decision on bail.

They are accused of multiple counts of ten counts of falsely using the documents they had obtained, ranging from birth certificates to a voters’ identification card, to stay in Belize.

Castellanos is further accused of sixteen counts of aiding a person to use a document to which they were not entitled, and is expected to face additional charges.

They were represented by Kevin Arthurs.

Immigration authorities have identified them as the center of a ring of Immigration document fraud based on the island of Caye Caulker – charging up to $2,000 to obtain Belizean passports, nationality certificates, birth certificates and other attendant documents using the identities of dead or incapacitated Belizeans.
