Tour guide charged for death of student

Tuesday, March 31, 2015. AARON HUMES Reporting:The tour guide accused of knocking down a student of Stella Maris School and causing fatal injury around 8:20 a.m. on March 17 was read charges of manslaughter by negligence before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith today in the Magistrate’s Court.

60 year old Errol Belisle is accused of running over 11 year old Austin Olivera as he was crossing the Philip Goldson Highway near its junction with the Airport Road in Ladyville.

Olivera was with a friend waiting to catch the bus to go to school when he was knocked down by Belisle’s grey Astro van carrying tourists from out of Ladyville toward Sandhill.

Belisle was also charged with drove motor vehicle without due care and attention and causing death by careless conduct.

He was offered bail of $5,000 and his case was adjourned until May 21. Olivera received injuries to his legs and head and he succumbed to his injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
