Taxi Operator killed in San Pedro Town

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015. BMG: The 43rd murder of this year was recorded yesterday in the premier tourist destination of San Pedro Town where a taxi operator was senselessly SP-Murder-150x150killed while on duty.

According to island cops, they were alerted of 42 year old Jose Rigoberto Beltran’s motionless body inside his parked taxi in a feeder road in the San Juan Area. Police believe that it is likely Beltran was subdued and taken to that spot and killed.SP-Murder0004-300x225

Police are looking at several angles including robbery and a drug related crime. So far they have detained 5 persons for questioning but none have been formally charged.  Jose’s body was found in his van with a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.SP-Murder0001-150x150

Authorities said that they have a boat in custody that they believe was utilized in the suspect fleeing from that area. A day later, their investigations continue. Jose was a member of the San Pedro Airstrip Taxi Association for several years.

Residents on the island say Jose was known as a friendly, reliable taxi operator.
