Thursday, May 7th, 2015. Gwen Gonzales Reporting: The Belmopan Branch of BNTU heard views from Mose Hyde, Senator Mark Lizarraga, Audrey Matura, and the Vision Inspired by the People (VIP) about the Petrocaribe Act and has made a decision.
The teachers were given a detailed overview of the history of unlawfully passed laws over a period of years and its negative effect on the country’s financial status. Each teacher was given a copy of the act and asked to read and understand it properly.
Mose Hyde passionately expressed his dissatisfaction about the unfair treatment that the power class of Belizeans endure in comparison to the affluent citizens. Senator Mark Lizarraga highlighted the many reasons why the law should not be supported and the long term effect on the decision made to pass the law in such a hurried manner.
Audrey Matura thoroughly went through the law and its implications to other future decisions. After all the discussions the teachers voted to unite with the anti-petrocaribe law marketers.
Present were the National President of BNTU, Luke Palacio, and General Secretary Keisha Flowers. The Belmopan Branch now awaits the votes from the other branches before they make their next move.
