Monday, May 25th, 2015. BMG: Five years ago the Government of Belize asked the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for assistance in bettering education and making it more accessible for children in every district of our nation. cdb3051-450x303

That call for help has been answered as the GOB’s loan request was approved by CDB at a meeting in Basseterre, St. Kitts in the sum of U.S $35 million along with a grant of U.S $461,000.

These funds are expected to make basic education easily accessible for underprivileged children with the construction of 35 furnished and equipped schools, creating openings for 5300 pre, primary and high-school students.

Poverty, cultural practices and parental ignorance are the leading causes of failure and dropouts in Belize’s education system.

The government has created a road map to ensure sustainability of student outcomes, address the identified problems that students face and increase participation in an attempt to alleviate the growing problems, hindering the growth of education in Belize.
