2015 Cancer Walk draws huge crowd

Monday, June 1st, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Organizers of the annual Cancer Walk from Ladyville to Belize City claim that each successive event is the biggest ever and it usually is. But this year’s journey was especially significant; it saw over 5,000 participants run, ride and walk the nine miles from Celina’s to the Belize Cancer Society (BCS) office on Mercy Lane beginning at five in the morning. Licensed nutritionist, Belize Cancer Society member and wellness coordinator for Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL), Karen Rosito, hailed the support Belizeans gave to the event.

As Rosito reports, cancer strikes high and low, and many participants are either recovering from bouts with cancer or relatives of those who have died from cancer related illnesses. She calls on the Government to contribute more seriously toward mitigating the effects of cancer in Belize.

The Cancer Walk is the single biggest fundraiser for the Society on an annual basis, and marks the official end of Cancer Awareness Month.
