The Belize Unity Alliance would like to congratulate Mr. Jaime Rodriguez, an independent candidate, on his recent win as Governor of the Mexican State of Nuevo Leon. He has helped to set a precedent and gives hope to the people, that electing independent, free-thinking individuals who are not beholden to a popular political party, which are more often than not beholden to local and international special interest groups, is possible.

charles-leslie-jrBelizeans we need to take heed, the alternative movement that is the VIP, PNP, BUA have not compromised who we are and what we stand for to win elections, we are not beholden to any special interests groups, locally or internationally, therefore candidates coming from this group, you can be assured, will truly represent the people.

I take this time to let Belizeans know that scientists have found that when just 10 percent of the population holds an unshakable belief, their belief will always be adopted by the majority of the society. “When the number of committed opinion holders is below 10 percent, there is no visible progress in the spread of ideas. It would literally take the amount of time comparable to the age of the universe for this size group to reach the majority,” said SCNARC Director Boleslaw Szymanski, the Claire and Roland Schmitt Distinguished Professor at Rensselaer. “Once that number grows above 10 percent, the idea spreads like flame.”

An important aspect of the finding is that the percent of committed opinion holders required to shift majority opinion does not change significantly regardless of the type of network in which the opinion holders are working. In other words, the percentage of committed opinion holders required to influence a society remains at approximately 10 percent, regardless of how or where that opinion starts and spreads in the society.

You have a voice my fellow Belizeans, even if you feel like the minority, with your help we can continue to spread the idea that there are better ways to govern our country, where we don’t have the poverty, suffering and misery we see today. We want to let people know that we can have a society where people can be successful on their own, people can take care of themselves and their families, people can become rich, without it being at the cost of our fellow Belizean brothers and sisters. We ask you to join us, support us, so that we can continue spreading our message of hope and allow us to put exceptional leaders in our House of Representatives, who will truly look out for the good of the people, create laws and policies that will create a level playing field for all, and not just a few.

This is no longer a PUP issue, this is no longer a UDP issue, this is a Belizean issue, and if we do not change the course we are on, it will be a Belizean tragedy. Let us, together, make it a Belizean success story, not just for a few, but for all.
