BMG: The Guatemalan military vessel that ran aground Belize’s reef on Wednesday night around 11:00pm has been removed from the reef between Long Caye and Middle Caye in Glover’s Reef.

According to reports, the vessel has been allowed to return to Puerto Barrios with all crew members on board which is a divergence from established protocol when a vessel damages the reef.

The Belize team that was responsible for assessing the damages on the reef will now submit a report to the Ministries of National Security and Foreign Affairs.

We will be updating this story as more information becomes available.

Shouldn’t these people be held in custody until full assessment of damages are done? Who gave the order for them to go home with vessel and all? We definitely have become the laughing stock of Guatemala!
