BREAKING NEWS: Maya’s Cool Spot hit by armed robbers

Friday, July 03, 2015. BMG: San Ignacio police are at the scene of an apparent armed robbery of  a business in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District.

Around 9:30 tonight, two masked men entered Maya’s Cool Spot in Santa Elena the corner of George Price Avenue and the low-lying wooden bridge. They demanded money from owner of the business Jorge “Maya” Ortega at gunpoint.

Ortega resisted the robbers and that is when one of them jumped over the counter and took away Ortega’s wife’s purse containing a sum of money, then they both escaped.

Neither Ortega nor his wife were injured during the attack. Police are investigating.
