Monday, July 13, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Belizeans have benefited from a series of reductions in fuel prices in conjunction with the lowering of prices around the world.
But a recent survey found that they are still among the highest in the Caribbean region, ranking only below several tourist destinations such as the Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, Suriname and Barbados, whose prices are highest.
Of Belize the report says that the country has one of the highest per capita gasoline consumption in CARICOM and seventh highest diesel consumption.
Fuel imports as a percentage of its merchandise imports in 2013 equaled 15.22%. Belize’s generation mix includes HFO and Bagasse. Major exporter Trinidad and Tobago has the lowest prices, ahead of Guyana, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia and Dominica.
