Ex-mayor will fight gun charge in Guatemala

Tuesday, July 14^th, 2015. BMG: Former Mayor of Benque Viejo del Carmen Town, Edgar Contreras, has acquired legal counsel as he defends himself against a firearm possession charge in Guatemala.

Contreras took his firearm with him over the border without realizing that his valid Belizean gun license meant nothing in Guatemala, which requires everyone to have a Guatemalan-issued license to carry firearms.

Guatemalan police doing random searches in the area came upon Contreras, who was relaxing in a park.

He was immediately detained and is expected to be charged today.
