Wednesday, July 22, 2015. BMG: Community members from several ethnic groups including Kriol, East Indian, Garifuna, Maya Leaders and the Belize Commission have held two special meetings in the month of July in Forest Home, Toledo District.breaking_1

The Commission says that it has joined in solidarity with the Maya of Southern Belize in their definitive recognition of their rights to ownership of their traditional lands based on ancestral and customary rights.

The groups demand justice and reparations for centuries of exploitation, slavery, genocide and marginalization from our ancestors, our homeland and natural and cultural resources.

The organizations also denounce racial prejudice/discrimination from whatever source and pledge to redouble their efforts so that Belizeans can continue to live in better harmony with one another.

And they will continue to call upon the Government to insure that the Belize constitution, laws, policies and actions ensure equality, social justice, and freedom for all marginalized citizens of Belize.
