Police shoot boyfriend involved in domestic dispute

Monday, August 3^rd, 2015. BMG: A domestic dispute in the Toledo District resulted in Punta Gorda police shooting a man wielding a machete over the weekend.

Officers responded to Wilson Road, Forest Home Village, which is located just a few miles outside of Punta Gorda Town, after receiving reports of a confrontation between 47 year old Jenifer Ramos and her 19 year old boyfriend, Byron Paiz.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers were met by Paiz who was advancing towards them with his machete and in attempt to subdue him, an officer fired a shot at Paiz, hitting him on his right hand.

The machete was then taken away and thrown a few feet away from Paiz by Ramos, but he quickly retrieved the weapon and police then fired one more shot, striking him on the right leg, enabling officers to take away the machete.

Paiz was transported to the Punta Gorda Hospital, then the Southern Regional Hospital and later to the K.H.M.H where he remains in a stable condition. Police are investigating.
