Thursday, September 3rd, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The “people’s bank”, the National Bank of Belize, is opening a second branch in Belize City on Regent Street.
Established two years ago as a low-cost option for public servants, the Bank has achieved and even exceeded expectations, according to general manager Alvaro Alamina at today’s opening.
The Bank saw the need for another branch to serve its customers in the Northern districts, Belize City and the cayes, and plans to open more.
The Bank is offering all kinds of loans at low interest rates and one point of pride is that it has helped to lower market rates set by its commercial rivals.
And according to Prime Minister Dean Barrow, there has been no political interference in the Bank’s operations; Ministers may recommend clients but they sink or swim on their own credentials.
