Expo Belize Market Place a Success!

Monday, September 7^th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: On Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6, the ITVET compound in Belize City, site of the 19th annual Expo Belize Market Place was buzzing with excitement.

Close to 17,000 Belizeans came out to support local businesses. The gates opened at 8 am and closed at 5 pm on both days, and the crowd poured in all day, capitalising every moment of what the exhibitors had to offer.

The Opening Ceremony was held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the ITVET Courtyard. Esteemed guest speaker, U.S. Ambassador Carlos R. Moreno, spoke on trading with the U.S. and briefly addressed the corresponding banking issues facing the banks in Belize.

Awards were presented to the winners of the Western Union Back to School Art competition. Justin Chen, junior category winner, and Evander Vasquez, senior category winner, received cash prizes for their artwork submissions, of $500 and $1000 respectively.

The deals, discounts and variety of food were definite crowd pleasers. Many Belizeans left with back to school and grocery necessities. New to the Expo was participation by the Merida Chamber of Commerce, the auto pavilion, optical services, Ready call center and micro businesses promoting handicraft, agro-products and environmental literature.

The Expo could not be complete without the drawing of the BCCI/Western Union Gate Prize Raffle, where 21 prizes were raffled to lucky visitors to the Expo. Winners will be announced in this week’s Amandala Newspaper and published on our website and Facebook page.

Sponsored entertainment by the BCCI, Bowen & Bowen, Quality Poultry Products, Premium Wines and Go Wireless was top of the line all weekend with music from the Gilharry 7 Band, TR Shine, Bad Gal Sharon, Wilson Grinage, Breannie, Poco Bwoy and DJs had the crowd all stirred up!

Voting for the Best Expo Booth closes today, where Belizean Public can vote for their favourite booth by simply logging on to the Chamber’s Facebook page and commenting.

The Exhibitor with the most likes will be awarded a free booth at next year’s Expo.
