Ministry of Health begins investigation into Lucia Cal death

Friday, September 18^th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The Ministry of Health has begun an investigation of the death of 19 year old Lucia Cal of San Antonio, Toledo District.

As we reported earlier this week, she died after delayed surgery to remove a ruptured appendix after being turned away from the Punta Gorda Hospital when she first went seeking treatment.

According to the Reporter Press, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Peter Allen reported that, quote, “We are aware of an allegation and the office of the DHS (Director of Health Services) conducts investigations on all such allegations – I understand that this has started but I am not aware of any details at this time. As always, our thoughts and prayers are with the family while we determine exactly what happened.”

Cal was pregnant with her first child and died in the KHMH Intensive Care Ward on Monday. She is the second woman from Toledo to die in strange circumstances in the last week or so.

Her funeral service will be held on Sunday.
