Sunday, September 27th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: This weekend saw a series of events organized in memory of Special Constable Danny Conorquie of Georgeville, Cayo District.
While on duty a year ago at the Caracol Archaeological Site in the Chiquibul Forest, without support from the Belize Defence Force, he was ambushed by a group of armed men, presumed to be from Guatemala, and shot dead.
Danny’s killers have yet to be found and the Guatemalan authorities have stalled Belize’s investigation of the incident.
It was recently reported that his family would receive $125,000 in compensation for his death. His family planned the weekend of events in his honor in Georgeville, with marathons in basketball, football and running over Saturday and Sunday.
