UB staff demand 14% raise

UB logoWednesday, September 30th, 2015. BMG: The University of Belize’s faculty and staff today released a letter addressed to its President, Mr. Alan Slusher, requesting a 14% raise in wages and giving the University two weeks to respond with a plan of action.

UB workers continue to plan a public demonstration in the event that a favorable answer is not received.

The letter mentions that UB’s faculty and staff last received a raise in 2003-2005 when all other public officers got salary increases as well, then were also subject to the salary freeze in 2005-2006. It goes on to reference the recent actions taken by KHMH’s board to receive its salary increase and applauds the success it achieved for its staff.

It also made mention of the fact that UB’s faculty and staff’s wages has remained stagnant and has not benefited from any recent re-evaluation.
