TIDE Annual Fish Festival to kick off next week

Thursday, October 1^st, 2015. Chrisbert Garcia Reporting: It’s the that time of the year again when the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) excites us with its Annual Fish Festival weekend celebration in Punta Gorda (PG) Town. This being the 13^th occurrence of this prestigious event, is scheduled for October 9th, 10th, and 11th; the Pan American Holiday weekend!

The fun filled weekend begins on Friday night at the Fr. Ring Parish Hall with a fundraising Seafood Gala featuring a variety of finger-licking seafood from the Port Honduras Marine Reserve and live local entertainment.

On Saturday the 10th at 3pm, the Weekend Warriors Cycling Club will host a bike race from the TIDE compound to Mafredi Village and back, for cash prizes. Later in the evening, at 6:00 p.m., a Youth Conservation Competition will be held at the Fr. Ring Parish Hall where talented youth will display their creativity through presentations on the theme – ‘Eliminating waste and protecting the environment by re-using, re-ducing and re-cycling’, to win cash prizes towards their education.

Then on Sunday the 11th, which is the Biggest Day of the fest, activities will kick off at the break of day, with the famous TIDE fishing tournament beginning at 6:00 a.m. A full day of activities then continues at 9 a.m. with an all-day volleyball tournament and another bike race by the Weekend Warriors Cycling Club at 10:00 a.m., this time from the TIDE compound to Silver Creek Village junction and back. You are invited to go out and cheer for your favorite cyclist as TIDE continues to integrate conservation and sports!

For those who may not have heard of the TIDE Fest, it is a world renowned event that attracts visitors from all across Belize and even abroad, who come to enjoy a variety of cultural food and unending entertainment. This year, the stage will be graced with all-day entertainment by Master of Ceremonies, Paul “Turboman” Mahung who is known as one of the best MC’s in Belize!

Come Participate in numerous traditional fun-filled activities such as coconut husking, hudut eating, cast net throwing and greasy pole, to win fabulous prizes donated by Punta Gorda’s business community! You cannot afford to miss the TIDE Fish festival weekend activities in Punta Gorda on your holiday weekend! Tickets for the Seafood Galla can be purchased at the TIDE office where interested persons can also sign up for the fest’s sporting events.
