Tuesday, October 6th 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Today a nationwide protest was staged by staff of the Belize Social Security Board and the Christian Workers Union has stepped in.  According to CWU president, Audrey Matura Shepherd, there is a lot of dissatisfaction at the SSB and the union has been doing its best to calm flare ups.  This time however, the staff unified in their decision, protested for half hour at SSB offices countrywide to make their dissatisfaction with management known.

The staff is upset that management has refused to pay them a $450 clothing allowance, which according to Matura Shepherd, is a longstanding agreement.

On Monday they staged a half hour protest during their lunch break for half hour – because they fall under essential services, a strike requires 21 days notice.

Before stepping into negotiations for another labor dispute the CWU is involved in, Matura-Shepherd said that the clothing allowance or lack of it is not the only thing making SSB staffers unhappy – they are insisting that they need their collective bargaining agreement addressed.

SSB Management has not responded to the protest.  According to Matura Shepherd staff should be paid $450 every 12 months for the Allowance – November will make it 1 year since no allowance was paid out.
