PUP unveils social contract with the people of Belize

Wednesday, October 14, 2015.  Aaron Humes Reporting: This morning at a packed Independence Hall, the pup 03People’s United Party has presented it’s social contract with the people of Belize.

Over the first 100 days of a PUP Government, the party plans to address key issues from education to health to government reform.

The governance reform agenda includes the following: build operating bases and outposts along the border; disband the Gang Suppression Unit, repeal firearms laws and prosecute acts of abuse by persons in power.

pup 01The PUP commits to appointing the civil society rep in the Senate; require the Senate to confirm appointments of senior public officers; reconfigure and empower the public accounts committee of the House of Representatives; strengthen the Integrity Commission; exempt PAYE workers from Income tax and make other reforms to financial services; transfer the Petrocaribe funds to an Upliftment Fund; revisit the hotel and tourism accommodation act to engage GST; raise the minimum wage and increase ssb benefits; provide free education from preschool to sixth format and scholarships; and roll out NHI.
