We were informed that Hyde has started meeting with other members of the party in Belize City and Stann Creek seeking their support for his bid as party leader.
Hyde recently beat his opponent Mark King by a landslide difference of 1,999 votes making him one of the PUP’s strongest candidates in last week’s General Elections. Hyde has also been getting a lot of support to offer himself as a candidate for PUP party leader since the elections.
According to our sources, Hyde is campaigning on an anti-corruption platform and has pledged to sign the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) if he were to be Prime Minister.
Other prospects for party leader include Deputy Party Leader Julius Espat and political newcomer Kareem Musa who upset Mayor Darrell Bradley in perhaps the biggest surprise of the elections.
