Friday, November 27th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Businessman Ruben Perez was murdered on Thursday afternoon in Belize City, the victim of a robbery which escalated when he refused to cooperate with his two assailants.
This evening police announced that those suspects had been captured. Superintendent of Police Hilberto Romero, officer commanding Criminal Investigation Branch, identified the two as Keon Dennison and Tyrone Reid, respectively of Maskall, Belize District and Dangriga.
Police say that the business was randomly selected for robbery, and that the two were not known to Belize City police as they rarely frequented Belize City.
Police recovered a cell phone stolen from the deceased when they were picked up earlier today, as explained by the CIB officer in charge of Southside Belize City, Inspector Alejandro Cowo.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Chester Williams, the surveillance video from the establishment, edited through the kind courtesy of Channel 7 News and its director Jules Vasquez, was essential in locating and capturing the suspects, whom he described as “amateurs” as the shooter panicked when Perez would not cooperate with them, and shot him.
Williams said that a reward would be sourced from various funds for those persons who assisted in the investigation; however, the main reward offered by Crimestoppers goes unclaimed.
