By BBN Staff: There are a lot of travel series on television and the Internet promoting Belize’s adventure tours, luxury resorts, beaches and Mayan ruins, but few of them, if any, have told the story of Belize like the newly produced World of Wild, created, directed, and produced by Canadian award-winning filmmaker Gariné Tcholakian.

The six-part documentary travel series takes a humanistic look at the typical approach to wildlife, but not just any wildlife. Tcholakian, who courageously directed the series while five months pregnant, chose to focus on what many Westerners most fear when coming to countries like Belize and other Central American nations.

From coral snakes (commonly considered one of the most poisonous snakes in the world), to the red-rumped tarantula, sharks, and howler monkeys to name a few, Tcholakian displays Belize’s amazingly beautiful array of wildlife in a remarkably unique, innovative and inviting manner.

In doing so, Tcholakian has single-handedly eradicated one of the biggest inhibitions stopping North Americans and Europeans from coming to Belize.

“Growing up in Canada, I was terrified of spiders, especially tarantulas, but for years I have sensed that, deep down, these creatures are in fact incredibly fragile and beautiful, if only given half the chance to be understood. This series tells that story, and I felt that Belize was the best place to tell it,” says Tcholakian. ” I really appreciate Belize’s cultural inclination to respect and protect nature and I really feel this series brings that fact to the fore.”

Hosted by one of Canada’s top travel bloggers, Mike Corey, this powerful series promotes the country’s greatest assets, through a unique blend of compassion, wisdom and entertainment.

World of Wild was made possible through the generous sponsorship of some notable Belizean resorts, namely the San Ignacio Resort Hotel, Roberts Grove Beach Resort, Calicko Jacks Village Resort, Chabil Mar Villas and Cahal Pech Village Resort.

The series, which surprisingly was made without the support of the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), comes very close to blowing out of the water Costa Rica’s wildly successful “Save the Canadians” campaign, a marketing strategy employed by the Costa Rican Tourism Board to attract Canadian tourists to Costa Rica. Tcholakian’s new series seems to do the same for Belize by appealing to the same North American market with a decidedly unique, engaging and compassionate approach to appreciating wildlife while highlighting Belize’s cultural role in protecting it.

Asked why the Belize Tourism Board was not a sponsor of the series, Tcholakian reports that her numerous attempts to reach the organization both by email and by phone went ignored.

World of Wild currently has a number of top travel channels across Canada and the USA vying for its rights and is expected to air in 2017.
