By Aaron Humes: A Ladyville resident lost his life on Saturday night while trying to cross the busy Philip Goldson Highway near the Shell Gas Station. 37 year old Robert Stephen Simplis, according to Officer Commanding Eastern Division (Rural), Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster, suffered a broken neck and died almost instantly.
The driver of the Mazda has been identified as Reginald James Gill, who now faces multiple charges. The senior officer also reported plans to get the area “lit up,” to prevent further accidents, in conjunction with the Ladyville Village Council.
Police were bringing charges against Gill as of this evening. It was not clear in which direction Simplis, a labourer from the New Site area, was headed when he was knocked down.
