By BMG Staff: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has invited popular host Steve Harvey to host the 2016 Costa Maya pageant.
“Dear @IAMSteveHarvey, we all make mistakes. You handled yours with class. Would you host our next pageant? @CostaMayaFest #MissUniverse2015,” the BTB tweeted.
BTB made the pitch to Harvey via Twitter earlier today as the host continues to face public backlash for his mistake at the this weekend’s Miss Universe pageant where he announced the wrong winner and had to make a correction shortly after, causing much outrage and confusion.
Harvey has been the butt of countless jokes on social-media and has taken much flack from critics for making the embarrassing mistake. He was since apologized several time and has taken full responsibility for the error.
Since the BTB tweet, international publications like the New York Daily News has picked up on the story.
The pitch is part of BTB’s continued strategy to promote the country via social media by capitalizing on trending current events.
Several months ago at the start of the American National Football League (NFL) season the BTB undertook a similar campaign via Twitter. After the NFL increased the distance for the conversion kick to 33-yards players struggled and the BTB responded by offering a trip to Belize for the next player to miss the kick.
That strategy also drew a lot of international attention.
