By Chrisbert Garcia: One man has been detained by police for a case of arson that destroyed a wooden structure in Scotland Half-moon village, Belize District, late Saturday evening.
Denise Lodge, the 33-year-old owner of a two bedroom bungalow house, reported to police that around 6:45 p.m., she left home to visit her sister-in-law in the village and upon her return, less than half an hour later, at 7:12, she saw her house engulfed in flames.
Lodge told officers that the house was occupied by seven persons and that it had no electricity, solidifying suspicions that someone deliberately set it on fire since no one was at home at the time of the fire.
The blaze was extinguished by fire fighters and the total cost of damages has not been determined as yet.
