Santa Anna water system to be inaugurated

By Chrisbert Garcia: An inauguration ceremony will be held at 3:00 this afternoon in Santa Anna Village, Toledo District, located 14 miles West of Punta Gorda (PG) town where a rehabilitated water system will be officially opened in the presence of dignitaries such as Ministers Erwin Contreras and Hugo Patt among others.

Set to benefit 542 inhabitants of that Mayan Community, the water system was fitted with a 20,000 gallons elevated storage tank, a 10 x 10 feet ferro-concrete pump house, a new 5 HP Submersible Goulds Pump, a Milton Roy liquid injector chlorinator unit, the installation of 13,000 feet of transmission and distribution lines and 91 water meters, all surrounded by chain link fence for security.

The project was implemented by Belize Social Investment Fund which also made an in kind donation of trenching at a cost of $28,000 through collaboration with the community of Santa Anna. At a total cost of $565,686.16, financing for this project was obtained through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank.
