Pregnant woman injured in traffic accident

Aaron Humes: Hattieville resident 37 year old Raquel Burke is in hospital tonight recovering from injuries sustained in a traffic accident this afternoon. 

This afternoon around 3:15 she was driving a Nissan Xterra from Ladyville to Belize City when, approaching the Northern approach of the Haulover Bridge, she lost control and collided with a red dump truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Her vehicle was redirected toward the left side of the bridge facing south toward Belize City, with extensive damage to the front portion. Burke, who is heavily pregnant, sustained body injuries and was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

The dump truck was driven by 33 year old Christopher Gillett of Burrell Boom, Belize District and received damage to the control arms, hood, rear view mirrors and springs. However, Gillett himself managed to escape injury.
