By Chrisbert Garcia: Punta Gorda police are the latest to implement the community-inclusive “Meet and Greet” initiative as a means of bringing the police and the public together.
Today, officers in town were seen in pairs, introducing themselves and making conversation in an attempt to familiarize the public with the people who work to keep them safe daily.
They also handed out forms on which residents are able to write their likes and dislikes about the department and ways they think it can improve.
The Meet and Greet Initiative started in Belize City last year under Senior Superintendent of Police, Chester Williams, and since then police formations in municipalities across the country have adopted the strategy.
We here at Breaking Belize News commend the Punta Gorda Police for shaking things up and trying something new to reduce the crime rate in that municipality, which has been on the rise since late last year.
