By Aaron Humes: 2017 will see Belize – all of Belize – covered by a 4G LTE network from the state-owned company, Belize Telemedia Limited.BTL

At its official kickoff today at the Hour Bar Conference Room, BTL’s executives announced not only better speeds and coverage but a commitment to affordable prices.

Coming 3 years after the arrival of a 4G network, BTL’s executive chair Anwar Barrow says that investment was worthy for its time and served the company well, but LTE is more efficient and fits the company’s determination to be top within the region.

BTL is partnering with the upstart Huawei Technologies to implement the $40 million, five-year project, which includes building sixty new cell sites from Corozal to Toledo, to reach new consumers.

Huawei rep Tim Danks projects up to 100 megabits per second, subject to location conditions.

Rollout begins in December.
