court in sessionBy Aaron Humes: Western Avenue, Belize City car dealer Albert Wright cut short his trial in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of obtaining property by deception by pleading guilty.

Now Wright must pay a fine of $1,500 and compensation of nearly 8 thousand dollars to Ken Dyer, the man whom he promised to buy a car in the United States between September and November of 2014, which he never delivered.

Wright promised to pay the compensation of $7,800 ordered by Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer in installments. The first installment of $2,000 is due by June 15, 2016, and by the 15th of each subsequent month, he must make other payments in installments of $2,000 until the amount is paid in full. Additionally, the fine is due by May 31, 2016, in default, 1 year imprisonment.

Ken Dyer had reported to police that between September 8, 2014, and November 21, 2014, he paid Wright the $7,800 to get the car, but having not received it, he was neither able to get back his money until police caught up with Wright and the matter came to court.

Even then it was a full year before trial was scheduled to begin yesterday.
