Court spares American visitor charged with cannabis

By Aaron Humes: Belize City Magistrate Carlon Mendoza elected to discharge a cruise ship visitor to Belize after she was caught with cannabis this morning.

31 year old Ashley Williams of Virginia, USA, was held for 1.8 grams of the drug found in her handbag by a security guard at the Tourism Village.

Williams said she bought the drug here and did not know that it was illegal. That prompted Magistrate Mendoza to say that the cannabis was sold openly to her, and that police need to find who is selling the weed, not buying and using it. With that, she was cautioned and discharged.
