Belmopan man injured in drive-by shooting

generic-shooting-graphicBy BBN Staff: A Tuesday night drive by shooting in the San Martin Area of Belmopan City has left 24-year-old Jose Alberto Marquez Jr. hospitalized in a critical but stable condition at the Western Regional Hospital.

At around 10:05 p.m., officers responded to a shooting and upon arrival at the scene, saw Marquez Jr. with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest that exited through his back.

He told officers that riding his bicycle on St. Peter Street when a grey Toyota 4 Runner came from the opposite direction and someone from the back passenger seat fired a single shot in his direction, causing the injury.

The vehicle then fled the scene and Marquez Jr. was transported to the hospital. Police have since detained one person of interest as investigation continues.
