Ryan Alvarez, Patrick Castillo to be tried for murder

By Aaron Humes: Almost a month ago, 22 year old Devon Sankey, on remand for six months for the murder of 55 year old Edward Albert Robinson, and the attempted murder of notorious street figure, 33 year old Jamil Betancourt which occurred on October 20, 2015 in the North Creek area of Belize City saw that charge withdrawn against him for lack of evidence

At the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry, former co-accused 25 year old Ryan Alvarez was told he would be tried alone for murder, attempted murder and grievous harm and use of deadly means of harm.

A charge of abetment to murder was dismissed since Sankey was released. Alvarez insists no one has accused him of murder. As a result of the shooting, Edward Robinson, an innocent by stander was fatally wounded.

The gunman’s intended target was Betancourt, who was only shot and injured but lived to tell the tale. Alvarez will have to stand trial at the June session of the Supreme Court set to commence on June 21, 2016.

Meanwhile, a man accused of killing his step-son will be tried in the Supreme Court.

43 year old Patrick Castillo is accused of the April 1, 2015 murder by chopping of Jose Maderos during a fight at their family home in Belize City.

The security guard had an altercation at the family home with his Guatemalan step son, Jose Maderos. The scene was so bloody, it left family traumatized.

Castillo alleged that Maderos came home intoxicated and tried to force open the front door and they got into an altercation where Castillo claim Maderos punched him in his face and he grabbed a machete and chopped him.

Castillo had also chopped his 13 year old step daughter by accident.
