5. MURDERBy Aaron Humes: Justice Adolph Lucas heard closing addresses today in the trial of 30 year old Shane Gillett, charged with the murder of 84 year old Samuel Price, the brother of the former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. George Price.

Samuel Price was killed at his home, located at mile 5 and a half Philip Goldson Highway, on the night of April 15, 2011. The following day his body was found by relatives partly immersed in a tub of water. He was beaten on his head and body by a blunt instrument.

The prosecution called 10 witnesses, but none of them were eye witnesses. Gillett took the witness stand yesterday and denied that he killed Price. He said that he was beaten and tasered by the police to give the caution statement.

He said that he was not asked if he wanted to make a phone call, speak to an attorney, a family member and he was not asked if he wanted anything to eat or drink. Gillett, in the trial without a jury, is being represented by attorney Leeroy Banner.

The Crown is being represented by Crown Counsels Portia Ferguson, Sherigne Rodriguez and Janelle Tillett.
