Teenager detained for murder of John Jay Rodriguez

By BBN Staff: On Friday night at a gaming establishment in Dangriga Town, a robbery attempt turned tragic when a single shot fired by one of the assailants, hit and killed 35-year-old singer, John Rodriguez.

Police visited the Havana Street location around 11:15 p.m., where they saw Rodriguez lying face down, apparently dead. Officers were told that three male persons armed with guns, entered the building and demanded that the cashier open her door.

When she refused to open her office door, one of the men tried to kick it open but was unsuccessful. He then fired a shot in the direction where Rodriguez and three other customers were standing, grazing Stanley Venai and hitting the deceased to his face.

Rodriguez’ body was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

A 16-year-old male has since been detained for investigation in connection with the incident.
