By BBN Staff: In just ten days since its release, an old favorite has quickly become a new addiction.

We are talking about Pokémon Go, the mobile app that is re-introducing the original Pocket Monsters – Pokémon for short – to a new generation. The app was released by Nintendo on July 6 and quickly rose to the number one spot across the world. 13672134_1447306681961547_1753450119_n

In this re-imagining of the franchise, we share the world with Pokémon, and you can catch your favorites and many more across Belize – from BTL and Memorial Parks in Belize City to the Cahal Pech Village Resort in San Ignacio, which are what are called Pokestops – places where you can set up to catch your wanted animal.

Pokémon got its start as an anime series in Japan. It quickly caught fire in the United States and around the world, spawning a series of video games, trading cards, assorted merchandise, and television and film series.

The app has sparked concerns about privacy and accessibility to criminals. Such is its addictive quality that one man in New Zealand recently reported that he quit his job to devote his full time to the app, and many relationships have suffered because one or the other partner cannot tear their eyes from the video screen.

The app is available for free at your preferred online dealer.
