Corozal businessman shot during robbery; two young men arrested and charged

By BBN Staff: Corozal police are investigating a robbery that happened on September 2 in San Adres Village in the Corozal District in which a popular businessman was shot.

According to police reports, officers visited the Corozal Community Hospital where they saw 48-year-old Israel Gomez, a business owner of San Andres suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

Gomez’ common-law wife told police that on September 2 around 1:10 p.m., two young Hispanic man entered their business establishment, Saint Jude Block factory with firearms and demanded money and her husband’s belongings.

The men took all the day’s sale which amounted to $1,500, three containers containing coins, and Gomez’ chain, however, a struggle ensued where Gomez was injured.

Police have since arrested and charged two young men, 19-year-old Alvan Nunez of College Road, and 18-year-old Pedro Tun of Skeleton Town area, Corozal Town for the crimes of robbery, attempted murder and wounding.
