By Zoila Palma: A two day shelter management training was conducted at the San Ignacio Police station by Jose Zuniga, a Disaster Risk Management Specialist and Corporal Ciriaco Medina, a community policing officer in San Ignacio.
Ten officers took the training and are prepared not only to provide security but also to assist in managing shelters in time of disasters.
Officers were awarded a Certificate of completion of training by Officer Commanding San Ignacio, Supt. Richard Rosado.
Rosado told BBN that while the police’s role at a shelter during a natural disaster is primarily the security and safety of the occupants using the shelter, having attained the capacity to manage a shelter will better equip the officers to know the role of the shelter manager and to assist in time of emergency if called upon to assume the role.
