BNTU gives GOB notice on Strike action

BBN Staff: The Belize National Teachers Union and Prime Minister Dean Barrow met on Thursday, September 22, 2016 to discuss the demands put forward by the BNTU.

BBN has been able to get a letter dated Friday September 23, 2016 written to the Prime Minister by the BNTU informing the Government that they will pursue the necessary actions.

There were eight points of demands to the Government.

The union says that 6 of the 8 points/ demands require stronger commitment and needs urgent attention.

In the letter, they expressed gratitude for meeting with them.

They then quoted “Kindly be informed that in accordance with our Stand Up for Belize Campaign, centred on the mantra, “it’s for far more than three; it’s for country,” we find that most of what you brought to the table is inconsistent with our demands to ensure good governance and respect for workers.” End of quote.

The two page document closed by stating, quote, “The BNTU therefore serves notice on the Government of Belize that we intend to pursue all necessary actions in furtherance of our cause that has the betterment of Belize as our primary goal.” End of quote.
