By BBN Staff: About 150 teachers gathered at the Octavia Waight Center for today’s meeting of striking teachers from the BNTU San Ignacio branch. Guest speakers for the occasion included Hector Silva and Louis Wade.

Teachers from the San Ignacio jurisdiction voted ‘en masse’ for the strike to be extended by another day. In addition, a follow up meeting was set for Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the same venue to provide teachers with an update and to decide if the strike will be extended to Wednesday.

Other BNTU branches across the country also met this afternoon at various venues, and the Vice President of the BNTU San Ignacio Branch reported that teachers countrywide voted to extend the strike for another day. It was also reported that the BNTU has agreed to send out letters to the banks and businesses asking for them to be sympathetic to teachers and support them in the event that government deducts their day pay from their salaries.
