By BBN Staff: Popular Canadian air carrier WestJet is now the first airline to offer direct service from Canada to Belize. Starting on October 29, 2016, WestJet will be operating non-stop flights twice a week from Toronto’s Pearson Airport (YYZ) to Belize City (BZE), the former capital of the popular vacation destination nation of Belize in Central America.
For many years, Canadians wanting to escape the cold and snow and enjoy an unforgettable vacation in Belize had to endure long layovers and multiple connections. With WestJet’s new non-stop service from Toronto to Belize, Canadians can now experience the many wonders of Belize, including snorkeling and scuba diving along the Belize Barrier Reef, exploring tropical islands like Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, hike through lush rainforests, and participate in Belizean national holidays like Garifuna Settlement Day.
Resorts, tour operators, and hotels are set to welcome Canadians at top attraction destinations in Belize like Caye Caulker. A small island located just a few miles offshore from Belize City, Caye Caulker has sandy white beaches that allow visitors to wade into the waters with a snorkel mask to marvel at colorful marine flora and fauna.
Probably the top destination for visitors in Belize is the island of Ambergris Caye. With its capital of San Pedro home to some of the best seafood restaurants in the country, the island is popular with visitors due to its proximity to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, a protected marine park that is home to sea turtles, sharks, rays, and dozens of species of fish.
Another top attraction in Belize is the Placencia Peninsula. Located in southeastern Belize, the peninsula is ideally situated between the Belize Barrier Reef as well as popular mainland attractions like the Cockscomb Basin Nature Reserve (the world’s only jaguar refuge), the Monkey River, and ancient Maya ruins like Nim Li Punit and Lubantuum.
At the southern tip of the peninsula lies Placencia Village, holder of the Guiness Book of World Records for the smallest main street in the world, a one-meter wide sidewalk restricted to pedestrian traffic. The village is home to a lively assortment of cafes, shops, bars, and dive shops with everything needed to outfit a trip to the nearby islands and the Belize Barrier Reef.
Chabil Mar, a popular Belizean resort in Placencia is welcoming WestJet’s entry into the popular North America-Belize market, by offering a special 20% reduction for all rooms for guests who book one night’s stay during the entire month of November and between December 1-15, 2016. Guests who want to experience the beauty and excitement of Belize before the big crowds start arriving need to act now in order to take advantage of this special offer.
