By BBN Staff:  Prime Minister Dean Barrow exited an impromptu meeting with the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU), Public Service Union (PSU) and the Association of Public Service Senior Managers (APSSM) with smiles stretched across his face.

According to Barrow, two of his proposals to the unions have been accepted by the PSU and APSSM. The BNTU, he said will consult with its membership and provide a response today.

He has proposed that if the unions accept the deferral of the three percent salary adjustment, he will pay them an interest of 5 percent which is estimated at around BZ $600,000.

He has also proposed to draft legislation amending the Social Security Act to provide coverage to employees to and from work in private vehicles.

We will have a comment from the BNTU President Luke Palacio, sometime this afternoon.
