By BBN Staff:  The Belize Police Department will be enforcing all motorcycle violations with immediate effect.

According to a statement released yesterday, the department claims that, “…we have been noticing an increase in crimes particularly shootings being committed by persons on motorcycles.”

“With a view to curb this trend and to make our community safer, we will be embarking on a number of traffic operations across south side, Belize City, geared at targeting those with the propensity to perpetrate criminal acts on motorcycle,” the statement noted. If you are one of those persons found on a motorcycles without a license you will be prosecuted under the Third Party Risk Insurance Act and Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act.

Also, if you are unable to prove ownership of your motorcycle, police will confiscate it until you are able to do so.

The Police Department promises not to delay traffic during its operation and is asking the general public to exercise patience as it seeks to minimize the occurrences of crime being committed by persons on motorcycles.
