By BBN Staff: An act of arson was reported in Orange Walk Town last night.

However, it wasn’t a house or a vehicle set on fire. Instead it was the town’s Christmas Tree erected by the town council.

Two adults have been detained by police in connection with the incident; however they have not been charged yet.

Mayor Kevin Bernard posted to Facebook that there were witnesses to the incident and they both boarded the police patrol en route to the police station.

Nevertheless, he said that by the time officers arrived at the station, there were no witnesses to give a statement.

According to Bernard, he will be making an official report to the police tomorrow as he feels that those responsible ought to pay for their deeds.

The holiday spirit isn’t lost in the destruction of the town’s Christmas Tree.

The Mayor further posted to Facebook, “I hereby make an appeal to our residents to let’s rebuild this Christmas Tree, lets pool our resources together to build back one for the benefit of our children.”

He continued, “I live in hope and I am confident that the good people of Orange Walk town will come together to work.  I want to also thank those persons who have already been pledging to contribute towards the rebuilding of the Christmas Tree.”

Persons interested in assisting the Mayor can contact him at 6701412 or 6702053.
