By BBN Staff: The Libertad police station was destroyed by fire on September 6, 2004. More than a decade later the community is still without a police station and there is no sign of any new police station coming to the village any time soon.

Police presence in the village is very limited and there is no officer officially assigned to the area. The village is known for being a hideout area for gangs members from Belize City. The village has also seen an increase of crimes.

A concerned resident contacted BBN and said when the police are called to the village, there is a long delay since the nearest police station in Corozal town is 9 miles away from the village.

For now, the residents depend only on calling the police and waiting an estimated three hours time until they respond to their calls.
