By BBN Staff: After a week of confusion regarding the opening date for classes following the Christmas holiday, classes will fully resume as per normal on Monday, January 9.

Many students, parents and teachers faced uncertainty this week as the prolonged back and forth between the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) continued.

The Ministry had announced that classes were to officially resume on Tuesday, January 3, and had advised the school management authorities to proceed on that date. The BNTU, however, was adamant that teachers were entitled to their full three-week Christmas holiday.

As a result, when classes opened on Tuesday, there were mixed results as attendance was poor in some schools while others were mostly functional. In Belize City most of the schools were closed except for a few with a small handful of students at school.
