By Charles Leslie Jr.: THE SOURCE:

The source of our problem is this useless, worthless, dysfunctional, insidious, perilous, dis-empowering Colonial System better known as the MONARCHICAL SYSTEM.

A dysfunctional Government SYSTEM attracts (and creates) dysfunctional leaders, who in turn maintain and protect that SYSTEM, and the Special Interests and Slave Masters manipulates everything from behind the scenes.

Remember, we were pretty much handed this Monarchical Government SYSTEM by our Colonial Slave Masters.

The type of leaders, who would be the Gatekeepers for the Special Interests and our Slave Masters, had been established from inception.

HOW IT IS DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY:

This SYSTEM puts the power over the people and the people’s resources, in the hands of a “monarchy” (Cabinet) in concept and in practice.

We, the people, have no real power except to remove these monarchs every five years.

We have the right to make noise, we have some right to being consulted (limited), however, we have:

  • no power of implementation,
  • no power to demand accountability,
  • no power to demand transparency,
  • No power to demand equal distribution of our resources.

And if you proclaim, “yes, we do”. Then ask yourself: “Why is it not so?” The answer: It is not a coincidence, it is by design.

It should be crystal clear by now that if we continue to employ the existing structures and mechanisms, and voting for the exact same political parties (different people, same establishment), exactly what has happened, is happening, will simply continue to be transferred to Government when one or the other established political party wins…

…and we end up right back at square one with a Cabinet Monarchy.

The Government is just the national legal extension of the party’s hierarchy.

WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE:

We have been changing the players for years but the game has remained the same.

Belize does not have democracy.

If we are serious about empowering ourselves and our fellow Belizeans, whether as a citizen or as politicians vying for office, we must be a part of moving Belize from a monarchy to a democracy.

We need a Government SYSTEM that creates a true separation of powers, so as to achieve practical and enforceable checks and balances.

It is pellucid that we the people must undertake an agenda to change the situation.

I doubt most Belizeans are happy with the situation in Belize, however, we are being bombarded with the manifestations of a defunct SYSTEM, instead, we must focus and set about to Change the SYSTEM.

We must curtail, limit or remove altogether the power of this Cabinet (Monarch) SYSTEM and replace it with true People’s power acting through their elected representatives.

We must discontinue this practice of selecting a Cabinet (Monarch) every 5 years or less and transferring to it, total power.

Power over our very existence for 5 (max) year cycles.

The people must retain the power to run our affairs and hand over authority to a Government that will handle the affairs as the people prescribe.

The people must always retain the authority to hold elected representatives accountable and to penalize them for any indiscretion.

The majority of the people in free and fair elections must make these decisions.

This is a true democracy, power by the people, to the people and from the people.

We must replace our Monarchical-style Government with a Democratic-style Government.

There is no place in our country for monarchy or autocracy – only democracy.

There is only one political party, thus far, that is working on an agenda to bring this about.

But it requires the participation of all the people if we are to create a true democracy.

The idea of changes for the betterment  of our society must be the driving force to bring them about.

In other words, if the people want the change, the change will happen.

Last week I was accused by an Alejandro Williams that: “Your attempt to change the rules for your own partisan political goals on the backs of the real social needs of the people is understood and noted – pure political opportunism masked as altruism.”

MY OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO ALEJANDRO WILLIAMS’ ACCUSATIONS:

If the social democratic movement I have helped found, was focused only to be in charge of this “Monarchical SYSTEM” (Cabinet), my colleagues and I would be focused on getting as much Special Interest money as possible, so as to buy as much votes as possible, and do whatever else is necessary, whether unethical and/or illegal, so as to win elections.

We would also certainly avoid talking about the SOURCE of our problems, and instead focused solely on calling out UDP and PUP corruption, and the many instances thereof.

Of course, It is expected that those who benefit from, and those who are in charge of the “Monarch” (Cabinet), which gives them the power to do exactly what they please, will never see anything wrong with the devastation of our nation, our natural resources and our fellow Belizeans…

…and will defend to the death, and attack anyone who challenges their source of power.

MY FELLOW BELIZEANS, I REPEAT:
It is not about getting rid of the PUP or UDP, it is about changing the SYSTEM, where ALL Belizeans are empowered, not only PUPs then UDPs, then PUPs…a cycle that has spiraled us down into the pits of Dante’s Inferno.

It is about demanding a SYSTEM that will allow the best Belizeans, whether they are a PUP, UDP, BPP, independent, no P, to lead and develop this country.

When we have a multitude of different leaders, representing more and more segments of our society in the House of Representatives, then Belize will be on the road to realizing its destiny as an example to follow.

A nation of production instead of consumption.

And then, and only then, will you, the Belizean people, actually have the opportunity to vote for the PERSON and not the party.

As a people, if we want to be economically, socially, culturally, and spiritually liberated, we need to change our SYSTEM of Government.

We can start by focusing on the significant benefits of Proportional Representation and look towards a full Republic of Belize, which would give us a Government System that can realize true separation of powers, so as to achieve practical and enforceable checks and balances.

“Continuous empowerment of the Belizean people  should be the ultimate goal of any political party.”
